FARMERS in the South West are being invited next month (June, 2013) to get free advice on the benefits of installing solar panels on any surplus land they might have.

Land owners and farmers will be able to get tips and advice on the renewable energy source from Solar Systems during its solar clinics every Tuesday and Thursday throughout June.

Phil Grabham, Managing Director of Solar Systems, explained: "There has been a rise in recent months of renewable energy installations on agricultural land, which can help to provide farm and land owners with a secondary income.

"We know that two of the main concerns for farmers are planning permission and financing for solar projects.

"We are holding regular solar clinics throughout the month to help answer any questions farmers or land owners might have regarding larger solar installations.

"The clinics will take place throughout June every Tuesday from 9am until 12noon and every Thursday from 1pm until 5pm at our offices on Windmill Hill in Ashill near Ilminster."

Alternatively, anyone who isn't able to attend in person can call the company on 01823 481 329 or tweet their question via www.twitter.com/solarsystems1.

The first solar clinic will be on Tuesday, June 4.

Phil added: "Some of the benefits for farmers or land owners who install a large solar array is that there is no capital cost, no financial outlay and they will get a rental income for at least 20 years.

"According to research by the National Farmers' Union (NFU) and NatWest renewable energy is likely to overtake rural tourism as a secondary income for the agricultural sector.

"So far there have been around 200 megawatts of power installed, which is enough to power 40,000 homes."
