Solar panels are a bright idea for small businesses

OWNERS of small businesses wishing to save money on their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprints are being offered free advice on installing solar panels this month (May, 2012).

Solar Systems from Ilminster says firms can help boost their growth by investing in the eco-friendly power source and it is giving tips on how this can be achieved.

Phil Grabham, Managing Director of Solar Systems, which installs home and business panels, explained: “Small businesses owning their own premises have significant energy costs to manage. Lighting, heating, computers, as well as retail products such as those sold in audio visual and electrical outlets, are all necessary for day-to-day business.

“However, they also add to a company’s carbon footprint and operational costs. Utilising renewable energy technologies, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) panels can reduce CO2 emissions, thereby reducing climate charge levy and utility bills.

“In addition, the current government Feed In Tariff (FIT) would also pay for all energy generated, further reducing outgoing costs. With most businesses operating during daylight hours, they can maximise the use of their own generated power.”

The team at Solar Systems is asking small businesses that would like to find out more to give the company a call. It is also able to answer queries via email, Facebook or Twitter.

Phil added: “There has never been a better time to buy solar PV panels. The price of panels has dropped and the Government’s 21p FIT gives a financial return on investment of around 10-12%, which is tax free, index-linked and guaranteed for 25 years.

“BUT we know the Government is going to reduce the FIT and possibly the guarantee period at the end of June (2012). Systems have to be installed and registered to qualify for the 21p and 25-year guarantee before June 30. So customers need to take advantage of the scheme and place their orders now.”

There are also environmental benefits to using the technology too.

Phil continued: “Using PV panels promotes companies that wish to have a profile of being ‘green’ and friendly towards the environment. There are also many awards for businesses promoting their green credentials.”

Solar Systems is one of the first UK solar installation companies to be fully accredited to supply and fit domestic systems. The company has a wealth of experience working with manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.

Phil said: “It became obvious that when the Government announced their intentions to introduce an incentive payment scheme, demand for alternative energy would increase and I was keen to be involved with the industry.”
